PYP Picnic Celebrates Learning, Reflection and Community

PYP students shared their learning portfolios with their families during an annual gathering focused on growth and connection.

IST’s annual PYP Picnic brought students, families and teachers together to celebrate both the end of the school year and the learning that took place throughout it.

A central part of the event was the opportunity for students to share their portfolios with their parents. Rather than simply displaying completed work, students used the portfolios to explain their learning journey. They reflected on areas of progress, discussed challenges and highlighted experiences or achievements that were meaningful to them.

This process gives students an active role in communicating what they have learned. It helps them recognise their own development and practise speaking about their choices, strategies and next steps. For families, the conversations offer a richer view of the thinking and effort behind classroom work.

The relaxed picnic setting also created time for families and teachers to connect as members of one learning community. It was a fitting way to recognise a year shaped by growth, inquiry and shared experiences.
