International School of Tallinn Expands in Response to Growing Demand

A new building will create 200 additional places at IST, expanding learning opportunities for students aged 3–19 from Tallinn’s local and international communities.

More space for a growing community

The International School of Tallinn (IST) is expanding in response to continued strong interest from families seeking an internationally recognised English-language education in Estonia.

IST is Estonia’s largest school offering the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum. Today, approximately 350 students representing nearly 60 nationalities learn together at the school. IST provides education for students aged 3–19, from Kindergarten through to the IB Diploma Programme.

Graduates earn the internationally recognised IB Diploma, which supports applications to universities in Estonia and around the world.

Interest in joining IST remains strong, including among a growing number of local Estonian families. This reflects the confidence families place in the quality of the school’s education and its international, academically ambitious learning environment.

Creating 200 additional places

Construction of an additional school building is scheduled to begin in autumn 2026. The expansion will create 200 new student places, increasing IST’s overall capacity to approximately 550 students.

The project will also include an extension of the Kindergarten, allowing IST to welcome more young learners at the beginning of their educational journey. The new facilities are expected to be completed during 2027.

The expansion represents an important next step for the school. As IST grows, it will continue to focus on meaningful learning, individual development and the strong sense of community created by students, families and educators from many different backgrounds.
