Early Years Program 3 (EYP 3)

Early Years Program 3 (EYP 3)

Overview

In the Early Years 3 class students are learning through inquiry as they are introduced to four Transdisciplinary Themes across the year. This is where they have the opportunity to learn about the world around them and develop their research skills. Daily schedules cover language arts, numeracy and unit of inquiry, social emotional learning, music, physical development, story time, guided reading and free/guided play.

Academics

Literacy and Maths skills are key focus areas, along with the Units of Inquiry in the classroom. Literacy skills are developed using the Jolly Phonics Programme where students focus in on sounds through a variety of actions to help cement their knowledge. Activities are planned to encourage play-based learning with some teacher-direction. Students practise fine and gross motor skills daily, and have opportunities to choose activities that are of interest to them during free play. In addition to indoor learning, children also spend time outside where they can play and
explore.

Inquiry

The transdisciplinary themes are taught through inquiry, this approach gives the students the opportunity to explore and develop their questioning skills. In EYP 3, we realise that children need time to practise their social skills. Children have opportunities to participate in dramatic play to encourage language, expand life experience, and heighten cognitive functions. Different games and activities inside the classroom provide the variety of explorations necessary to stimulate thinking and intellectual growth. Above all, EYP 3 is a place where students can feel happy and safe, and they will receive the preparation they require for their future school years.
